In 2026, “does this flight have WiFi?” is the wrong question. The right question is: “Does this flight have usable WiFi?”
For decades, we’ve been held hostage by Viasat and Gogo systems that charge $25 for a connection that struggles to load a text email. That era is dead. Starlink Aviation has deployed a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network that delivers 350 Mbps directly to the fuselage, with latency so low you can game on it.
I’ve tracked every installation and rollout schedule. Below is the only list you need to determine if your next flight will keep you connected or leave you buffering.

FAQ: Starlink In-Flight WiFi
Is Starlink WiFi free on all airlines?
Mostly, yes. Hawaiian, Qatar, Air France, United, and WestJet have all adopted a “Free for Members” model. You simply need to sign into your frequent flyer account (which is free to join). British Airways has announced it will be free for everyone, regardless of membership.
Does Starlink work over the ocean?
Yes. This is its biggest advantage. Because it uses laser links between satellites (optical inter-satellite links), it doesn’t need a ground station nearby. You will have full 350 Mbps coverage over the middle of the Pacific or Atlantic.
Can I stream Netflix or make Zoom calls?
Absolutely. The latency is under 20ms, which is comparable to home fiber. Zoom, Teams, Netflix 4K, and even online gaming work flawlessly. It is not blocked like on legacy systems.
When will Delta and American Airlines get Starlink?
As of late 2025, Delta is sticking with Viasat (which is decent, but not Starlink-level), and American Airlines is fragmented between Viasat and Intelsat. Neither has announced a switch to Starlink yet, likely due to existing long-term contracts.
